Growth at local airports 'help combat climate change'
28.09.07
The growth of flights from local airports, offering passengers alternatives to flying from major hubs such as Heathrow and Manchester airports, contributes to efforts to cut emissions by reducing the need for long car journeys, a trade association has claimed.
Commenting on the recent growth at regional hubs such as Bristol Airport, which has doubled its share of UK passengers over the past six years, Chris Goater, head of media and public affairs for the Airport Operators Association (AOA), said increased access to local airports helps to keep emissions down by offering people shorter journeys to catch flights. He added that the growth has also had a beneficial effect on business in certain regions.
