New aircraft noise monitoring equipment to be introduced
23.12.07
New machines are to be introduced at Bristol Airport to enable noise complaints to be investigated and dealt with more efficiently. The new aircraft tracking monitors, which will be introduced next year, will enable staff to pinpoint which planes are flying where at exactly what time.
The new equipment will mean that, for example, if a resident living nearby makes a complaint about noise coming from planes flying overhead, the aircraft making the noise can be identified using that person's postcode and the time it was observed.
A Bristol Airport spokesman said: 'This equipment will mean that airlines can be notified if they leave a designated flight path and subsequently disturb residents.' At other airports it is also used to fine airlines who leave not follow a flight path, with the money raised typically donated to local charities.
