21.09.07
Passenger were 5.8% higher at Bristol Airport last month compared to a year earlier, at 636,000. The growth was caused by a substantial rise in international passengers, with charter passengers flat but a sharp drop in domestic passengers.
Domestic passengers - making up 18.4% of passengers in August - dropped by 8.6%, 'due to the cessation of BA Connect routes,' whilst international passengers - 52.5% of total passengers - were up by 15.5% as 'easyJet based another aircraft at the airport and added additional summer routes to popular holiday destinations.' Charter passengers - still a substantial 29% of August's traffic - increased by 0.6% despite continued consolidation in the packaged holiday market.
Looking at the 12 months to the end of August, passengers were up 3.4% at 5.78m, with domestic passengers - 23% of the total - down 8.1%, international passengers - 54% of the total - up 11% and charter passengers - 23% of the total - flat.
