Two drug smugglers jailed

Two men were jailed for a total of 18 years this week after being caught smuggling cocaine into Britain via Bristol Airport. Bristol Crown Court heard how the two men were arrested in separate incidents in June, each trying to carry around 2.5 kilos of the 'devastating' drug into the UK.
Londoner Delroy Gayle, 48, was caught on June 2, with drugs worth £120,000 hidden in a false-bottomed suitcase. He had flown into the UK from Cameroon, via Paris, and claimed to have attended an overseas funeral. A jury found him guilty of being knowingly concerned in the importation of drugs.
Separately, on June 25, Nigerian Okechukwu Okoye, aged 43, was intercepted by UK Border Agency officers after also flying into the UK from Paris. X-rays had shown hidden compartments in his suitcase - a search revealed drugs valued at £100,000. He pleaded guilty to the same offence.
Mr Gayle was jailed for 11 years, and Mr Okoye sentenced to 7 years.
