Protest planned for planning meeting

Campaigners fighting £150m expansion plans at Bristol Airport will protest outside council building in a last-ditch attempt to stop the plans, which are widely expected to be approved this week.
North Somerset Council's south area planning committee meets on Wednesday at 18:00 to discuss the plans. The Council's planning officers have recommended that the application be approved, subject to 67 planning conditions and a legal agreement being entered into between the airport and the authority for contributions totalling millions of pounds to transport schemes, a passenger cap and strict limits on night flights.
Members of Stop Bristol Airport Expansion (SBAE) will stage a protest outside the Town Hall ahead of the meeting. SBAE spokeswoman Susan Pearson said: ‘This protest is about making councillors aware of the strength of opposition against the airport expansion plans.’
