Airport expansion recommended for approval
25.02.10
The £150m expansion plans at Bristol Airport have been recommended for approval by North Somerset Council's planning officers. A 170 page report on the application, which could see the airport double in size to accommodate up to 10 million passengers a year, including expanding the terminal plus yet more airport parking and an airport hotel, will go before the Council's South Area Committee in a special meeting at 18:00 next Wednesday (March 3).
The report recommends approval of the application subject to 67 conditions and a legal agreement between Bristol Airport and North Somerset Council. The legal agreement would secure a number of financial contributions from the airport for schemes including improved road links to the terminal, new bus services, a 10 million a year passenger cap and limits on night flights.
Anti-expansion campaigners have urged the council to reject the plans, claiming they would lead to massive rises in noise, traffic and pollution.
