Flight makes emergency landing over security threat
24.09.08
A plane flying from Bristol Airport to Cyprus made an emergency landing on Sunday after the crew alerted police to a security threat on board. The pilot of the Eurocypria flight contacted police to say there was a threat to passengers, which turned out to be a false alarm.
The aircraft made an emergency landing at Stansted Airport around 13:00 after a bomb alert. Essex Police said although there was a potential threat on board, they would not release full details. However, a passenger told reporters that the plane was surrounded by police as first the baggage, then the passengers were unloaded.
The security alert was eventually relaxed, but the passengers journey did not continue until 17:00, when the plane flew to Crete, rather than Cyprus. Passengers were forced to stay on the Greek island overnight before another flight took them to Cyprus the following morning.
