MP objects to airport expansion plans

A local MP has written to the leader of North Somerset Council objecting to the expansion of Bristol Airport unless traffic problems near the terminal are dealt with. Bristol24-7, reports that Dr Liam Fox, the Conservative MP for Woodspring, said that transport improvements must be made before any expansion of the airport is allowed.
Transport issues, such as heavy traffic on roads through villages, were already a major concern, he said. With passenger numbers forecast to grow from 6 to 10 million during the next decade, the MP added it was a ‘mystery’ how these passengers would reach the airport without increasing the problem.
The letter comes after it emerged that a decision on the £150 million expansion plans will be made at a special council meeting of North Somerset Council’s North Area committee on Wednesday March 3 at its Weston offices.
