Airport refuse to refund car park fees

A passenger due to fly from Bristol Airport last weekend will not receive a refund for the money he spent booking a parking space, because he did not opt for a 'flexible' booking, the BBC reports. Roy Sanderson was due to fly to Cyprus on Sunday with easyJet, but his flight was cancelled amid the chaos caused by the volcanic ash cloud. And despite fees for over-stay car parking being waived for passengers delayed coming back to the airport, outbound passengers who did not book flexible (cancellable) car parking will not receive a refund.
Mr Sanderson told BBC Bristol ‘I paid £46 for my airport parking and it seems I've lost that. I'm being refunded by easyJet. Theirs was a non-refundable ticket, but they've done the decent thing and refunded me. The hire car company, likewise, are refunding me, but my car parking fee seems to be non-refundable.’
James Gore from Bristol Airport said Mr Sanderson, like other passengers booking at the car park, had the chance to make his booking ‘flexible’. He said: 'When he bought his parking he was given the choice between a flexible booking and non-flexible booking. The difference is made very clear at the point of purchase - the price difference is between £2 and £3.'
But Mr Sanderson told the BBC when he booked the choice on the airport's website ‘certainly wasn't clear’. He said: ‘It's not that I've cancelled it - it's been cancelled by the aviation industry. I've not cancelled anything, they've cancelled.’
