Runway closed by emergency landing
23.05.08
Flights at Bristol Airport were disrupted this morning when a light aircraft made an emergency landing on the main runway at 09:45. The four-seater Cherokee took off from the Bristol Flying Centre but was forced to land again soon afterwards. Fire crews attended the scene and the plane was stuck at the end of runway for more than an hour, but no-one was hurt.
The aircraft was removed from the runway and a surface inspection carried out before operations resumed at 11:04. An airport spokesman said that 3 incoming flights were diverted - Air SouthWest flights from Leeds Bradford and Manchester landed at Plymouth and easyJet's flight from Glasgow went to Cardiff - and 6 departing flights were delayed, but disruptions were minimal.
