Passengers down 14.4%
21.05.09
Bristol Airport passengers were down 14.4% in April compared to last year, to 417,000, despite the timing of Easter (in March last year, but April in 2009). Domestic passengers were 5.5% lower, primarily due to reduced flights from easyJet and Air Southwest. International passengers decreased 11.5%, predominantly due to capacity cuts by easyJet and Ryanair and charter passengers were 40.5% down due to the loss of XL Airways and a reduction in capacity by Thomson Group.
In the 12 months to the end of April passengers were down 3.8% to 5.82m. Domestic passengers were down 10.0% to 1.1m, international passengers up 4.6% to 3.6m and charter passengers down 19.3% to 1.1m. During the month new charter flights operator, Kiss Flights announced that it will operate a summer service to Sharm el-Sheikh in addition to its previously announced Tenerife route.
