Bristol Airport is looking forward to the start of the summer holidays, with passenger numbers expected to rise steeply as the school term ends this week. The airport's forecasts indicate that more than 1.2 million people will pass through its terminal during July and August, with traffic getting close to the levels seen in 2008. Flights to Skiathos in Greece and Pula in Croatia are new this summer, while Mexico, Florida, Turkey, Greece and Egypt remain popular.
Additional staff have been recruited to ensure the airport runs smoothly during its busiest period, with 18 new faces joining the customer service and airport parking teams. Sixteen ‘Volunteer Information Patrons’ (or VIPs) are in place to provide information and a warm welcome to visitors flying into the region, and nearly 300 new seats have also been installed to ensure passengers can relax in comfort while waiting to board flights.
Shops at the airport are are also gearing up for a summer rush. The duty free store will sell 500 pairs of designer sunglasses a week this summer, while 1300 bottles of sun screen will be purchased from Superdrug. 2,750 breakfasts, 24,000 coffees and 2,000 muffins will be consumed by hungry passengers each week too!
