Passengers down 22.8%
20.04.09
The day after press reports suggested that Bristol Airport was for sale, the airport reported passengers for March were 22.8% down on last year. This is a slight improvement on February, when passengers were down by 26.2%.
March domestic traffic was 9.7% lower, due to reduced load factors across all domestic airlines. International traffic decreased 21.3%, predominantly due to easyJet’s winter capacity cuts, and charter traffic was 45.2% down due to the loss of XL Airways flights and a reduction in capacity by Thomson Group.
In the 12 months to the end of March passengers were down 1.7% to 5.89m. Domestic passengers were down 10.2% (1.12m) and charter passengers down 17.4% (1.12m), but international passengers were up 7.6% (3.65m). During the month easyJet announced the introduction of an additional aircraft at the airport for the peak summer period, but Lufthansa announced that it would withdraw its key Frankfurt route.
