Passengers up 9.3%
19.09.08
Passengers were up 9.3% at Bristol Airport in August compared to a year earlier due to additional low cost capacity.
Domestic traffic continues to decline, down 7.0% in the month, but international traffic increased 26.1%, due to the ongoing impact of the new Ryanair base which opened in November 2007, new easyJet routes and the introduction of Lufthansa flights in March 2008. Charter traffic was 10.4% lower due to consolidation in the industry.
In the 12 months to the end of August passengers were up 8.7% to 6.3m compared to the previous 12 months, with domestic passengers down 8.2% (to 1.2m), international passengers up 21.8% (3.8m) and charter passengers down 4.9% (1.3m). The airport said that it would not be badly hit by the failure of XL Airways, which represented 3% of its traffic.
