Passengers up 0.8% in 2011
19.01.12
Passenger numbers at Bristol Airport increased in 2011 for the second year running, despite the challenging economy. The rise was just 0.8% to a total of 5.7m, but this was enough for the airport to continue to grow its market share in the region and maintain its place as the UK’s fifth largest airport outside London.
The rise in passengers was achieved with fewer flights. The number of air transport movements in 2011 was down by 4.1% – or by almost 3000. This means that airlines were operating with higher load factors on larger aircraft and thus maximising environmental efficiency.
An airport spokesman said high points for 2011 were a record September, which saw 610,000 people pass through the airport. December also saw an 8.8% rise over the same month in 2010, driven by a 10.8% increase in scheduled international traffic and lower passengers in 2010 because of the bad weather.
