Passengers up 2.2%
18.08.10
Passenger numbers continued to rise in July, up 2.2% on last year. More than 637,000 passengers passed through the terminal, taking the total for the year to date to over 3.2m. The rise in passengers last month was achieved with slightly fewer flights than in 2009, indicating that airlines operated with higher load factors (more passengers on average per plane).
Six out of seven months so far in 2010 have seen more passengers use the airport than in the previous year, with April – when flights were disrupted by ash from the volcano ash cloud – the only exception. The airport is expected to handle its fifty millionth passenger by the end of the year.
