Expansion plans submitted to council

Expansion plans for Bristol Airport have been submitted to North Somerset Council. The plans include extending the airport terminal, adding more car parking spaces and building new aircraft stands, in order for the airport to be able to handle 10 million passengers a year by 2016. The airport claims that 4000 jobs could be created and £340m injected into the local economy if the scheme is approved, however local campaigners have questioned these numbers.
Robert Sinclair, Bristol Airport's chief executive, said: ‘Over the last 6 months we have listened to a wide range of views relating to the development of the airport [during a public consultation]. In response to requests from the local community, we have introduced a new cap on night flights, as well as maintaining the current night noise quota. We will also commit to maintaining CO2 emissions at or below 2007 levels with 20% of the additional energy required by this development coming from on-site renewable sources.’
