Government tourism pledge backed by airport

Bristol Airport has backed the coalition Government's plans to turn Britain into one of the world's top five tourist destinations. Speaking in Hyde Park last week, Prime Minister David Cameron announced he intends to remove obstacles preventing overseas holidaymakers from visiting the UK.
Robert Sinclair, Bristol Airport's CEO, welcomed the news. He said because the UK is an island nation most visitors arrive by air, so he believes tourism should be considered when the Government launches a consultation on proposed aviation tax changes. He added that Bristol expects to see more than 1.2 million passengers pass through its terminal in July and August, with traffic levels returning to those last seen in 2008.
