Passengers up 0.2% despite the snow
15.02.10
322,108 passengers passed though Bristol Airport in January 2010, an increase of 0.2% (542 passengers) on January 2009. Growth was achieved despite significant disruption to flights by severe weather across the UK and Europe that saw passengers down at most other UK airports. It is estimated that, without the impact of the snow, an increase in passenger numbers of at least 5% would have been achieved.
Bristol Airport performed well compared to other UK regional airports, most of whom experienced double digit passenger declines in January. Both charter and scheduled international services saw a year on year increase, driven by a strong ski programme and increased flights from Brussels Airlines, respectively.
Growth is expected to continue as the year progresses, with the first quarter of 2010 seeing new routes from Ryanair, easyJet and Flybe. Brussels Airlines also began operating a third daily flight to the Belgian capital on January 10, opening up access to convenient onward connections across Europe and Africa.
