Passengers up 8.5%
14.07.10
Passengers were up 8.52% at Bristol Airport in June, with scheduled international flights showing the biggest increase, up 13.2%. Over 583,000 people passed through the airport's terminal last month, taking the total for the year to date to more than 2.5m.
CAA statistics due to be published this week are expected to show Bristol is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK. Five out of the first six months of 2010 have seen more passengers pass through the airport, with April – when UK air travel was disrupted by ash from the Icelandic volcano - the only exception.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘Demand for both business and leisure travel is returning to levels seen before the recession. Airlines are responding by introducing additional capacity this summer. The Glastonbury Festival also generated a significant number passengers in June, with Bristol Airport a popular gateway for festival-goers.’
