An elderly couple who paid extra for seats within the exit row for a flight were told at check-in they could not sit there - because they were too old - the Mirror reports. Marion Webb, seventy seven, and husband Derek, seventy nine, had paid an additional £100 for extra leg room on top of the £2,360 cost of a holiday to Egypt with Thomson Airways. However, once they arrived at Bristol Airport, employees stated they could not have the exit seats as the pair would not be capable of operate the exit door in an emergency.
The couple, of Stockwood, Bristol, told the paper that they were ‘hurt, humiliated and angry’. Mrs Webb mentioned: ‘We informed the woman at the check-in desk we had already been allocated our seats online. She said, 'Yes, I know, however you are too old to have exit seats'.’ Thomson apologised but stated workers followed CAA rules on passengers seated at exits. When we checked these we could not find an age limit.
