Non-aeronautical revenue down 15.8%
09.05.09
Bristol Airport reported a 15.8% fall in non-aeronautical revenue (retail and car parking income) in the first quarter of 2009, but registered a 7.8% increase in retail and catering revenues per passenger due to ‘the new terminal layout and successful sales promotions’. Operating costs were 2.8% lower in the period due to a combination of lower staff numbers and a freeze on all areas of discretionary spend. The lower costs were achieved despite an 86% increase in utility costs.
Passengers fell by 21.5% in the quarter, primarily due to easyJet’s and ThomsonFly’s winter capacity cuts and the loss of flights from the XL Airways. However, the summer schedule shows increased capacity due to additional easyJet frequencies, two additional Ryanair aircraft and a new charter operator, Kiss, commencing operations from July.
