Passengers reminded of hand luggage liquid rules
05.07.11
Millions of pounds worth of liquids are being thrown away at airport departure gates because passengers are forgetting to check security regulations. Women will throw away an estimated £10 million worth of liquids at airport departure gates this summer, with more than 3 million items including perfume, sun creams, deodorants and drinks discarded before passengers are allowed though to the departure lounge.
Bristol Airport spokesman James Gore said: ‘With the busy summer holidays coming up, it is a good time to remind passengers what they cannot carry in their hand luggage. Some of the items passengers get confused with are things like makeup, gels, sprays and even Marmite. There is no problem taking these items abroad, as long as they are packed in your main baggage for the hold and not in your hand luggage. You can get a full list of the regulations on the airport website.’
