New airport taxi deal agreed
04.05.10
Bristol Airport has signed a new 5 year deal with its official on-site taxi firm, Checker Cars. The taxi firm has agreed drivers will steer clear of the village of Barrow Gurney whenever possible as part of the deal, will also invest in a new fleet of cars to service the airport and set up a range of new services.
Other taxi firms operate at the airport but Checker Cars is the only company to have an official contract. Under the terms of the new deal the firm's drivers will sign up to a code of conduct including customer service, driving standards and taking into consideration the villages and communities around the airport.
The deal means drivers will avoid Barrow Gurney - used as a rat-run for people travelling to the airport from the west of Bristol - whenever possible and agree to stick to the 20 mph speed limit in the village. A new ticket machine will also be installed in the arrivals area so that passengers can avoid queues during busy periods.
