Travel retailer WDF started operating the main duty-free store at Bristol Airport under the World Duty Free brand yesterday. The Autogrill-owned company won a seven-and-a-half-year contract to run duty-free stores at the airport in August, beating competition from previous operator The Nuance Group, Aelia and Harding Brothers.
WDF said: ‘Handing over from the previous evening, a project team and volunteers from the business worked through the night to change the systems, install the new signage and completely restock the shelves with 44,000 units of 5,500 products.’
The Autogrill-owned company will operate a new 1,076 sqm (11,581sqft) walk-through duty-free store, 40% larger than the current store, once redevelopment work started this week is completed next spring. WDF will also open a 61 sqm (656 sqft) specialist store called Collection, scheduled to begin trading by the end of 2009, focusing on luxury accessories including handbags, sunglasses, watches and jewellery.
